Julien is an initiative-taking director, and his dream is to bring Alfalit’s programs to all the provinces in the DRC. His passion for bringing education to as many Congolese as possible is based on his childhood experiences growing up with a mother who was not able to obtain an education because of eye disease. His father used to insult his mother in French because of her lack of education. As an adult, he was a manager for mining companies, and had to mediate conflicts between couples when the men would accuse uneducated wives of being unproductive and bad money managers. His commitment as the director of AlfaCongo is to educate men and women in order to significantly reduce divorce and create empowerment opportunities for women.
AlfaCongo received the Maria Losako Award as the best literacy program out of 342 literacy projects in the country. The award is sponsored by PACOM, a Catholic organization. Julien is fluent in English, French, Chinese, Swahili, Tshiluba and Lingala. He earned diplomas in Humanitarian Studies at the College of St. Charles Lwanga/Kamina, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences at the University of Lubumbashi. He is married and is the father of three children.
